Barcelona have enchanced their investments in African talents. They have prepared a structural-level plan to have influence in Africa and detect emerging talents in countries like Mali, Ghana, Nigeria or Senegal.
It is a strategy that was brought up by Joan Laporta himself. The President has promoted this network that has Sergi Barjuan as a key and visible figure in co-ordination with the scouting department led by Paulo Araujo. Only having a figure from Africa is pending now.
The club has already tested Mali’s Ibrahim Diarra and Ghana’s David Oduro, both of whom have given magnificent impressions, and work is being done to close their signings when they turn 18 in December and June respectively. They can’t sign earlier because they are non-EU.
Barça want to capture talents before others. Sometimes the players are offered to Barça, who have global presence, through agencies. During trials, they are monitored by Barça analysts and co-ordinators. The club takes care of the boys, follow up and evaluate. They then negotiate if needed.
Pau Cubarsí (17 years and 2 months becomes the youngest defender to debut for the Spain national team, Surpassing Sergio Ramos (18 years and 11 months).
Pau Cubarsi has already received Barca's renewal offer for another two years since he has not turned 18 and cannot sign a long-term contract.
